Questions
Frequently asked questions
What Lifereel does with what you give it, who can read it, and how it leaves your hands intact.
- Who can see my volumes?
- Only accounts inside the organization the volume belongs to. There is no public link, no gallery and no feed, and volumes are not indexed by search engines.
- What can I add to a volume?
- A résumé or CV, a diary, letters, a wedding or immigration record, photographs, video, audio recordings, documents, or a memory you simply type out. Anything you bring is dated, placed and gathered into chapters.
- Does Lifereel invent details that are missing?
- No. It only uses dates, places, people and quotations that appear in the material you gave it. When something important is missing it asks one plain question, and files whatever answer you give as it stands.
- What is Listen mode?
- Listen mode reads a chapter’s narration aloud while your own photographs appear in sequence. The words come from your material and the pictures are never altered or generated.
- Can I make a volume about someone else?
- Yes — as a gift, a tribute or a memorial. The person it belongs to is recorded as the subject and their approval is noted before the volume is shared with anyone.
- Who counts as an editor in an organization?
- An organization has editors, who file and edit entries, and readers, who propose material, agree with what others propose, and leave comments. The person who started the organization chooses who edits.
- How are photographs and recordings stored?
- Privately. Files are held in private storage and opened through short-lived signed links, so a photograph is not on the open web even for a moment.
- Can I take everything with me?
- Yes. A volume can be downloaded as one readable file containing every chapter, entry and photograph, with the sources and still-open questions at the end. It opens in any browser and can be printed.
- Can I delete a volume?
- Yes. Deleting removes the volume along with its entries, chapters, questions, notes, contributions and votes. It cannot be undone.

One photograph is enough to start.
